How to Zoom In on Part of a Video and Zoom Out Using CapCut

Adding movement to your videos can instantly make them more engaging. One of the easiest ways to do this is by using the Zoom In and Zoom Out effect in CapCut.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to zoom in on a specific part of your video and then zoom out smoothly — step by step. Even if you’re a beginner, you’ll be able to follow along.

Why Use the Zoom Effect in Your Videos?

Zoom effects are powerful because they help you:

  • Highlight an object, person, or area in the video

  • Draw attention to important details

  • Make tutorials, vlogs, and product demos more dynamic

  • Add motion without moving the camera

  • Make your videos look professional and polished

Even a small zoom can make your video feel more cinematic and engaging for viewers.

Step-by-Step Guide: Zoom In and Zoom Out in CapCut

Step 1: Import Your Video

Open CapCut and create a new project. Add the video clip you want to edit.

Make sure the clip is long enough so your zoom effect doesn’t feel rushed.

Step 2: Choose Where the Zoom Will Start

Move the playhead to the exact point in the video where you want the zoom to begin.
This ensures the zoom effect is timed perfectly with your content.

Step 3: Add the First Keyframe

Tap the Keyframe icon (diamond shape) at the starting point.
This sets the initial position of your video before the zoom begins.

Step 4: Zoom In

Move the playhead slightly forward and increase the Scale of your clip.
Adjust the Position if you want to focus on a specific part of the frame.

CapCut will automatically create a second keyframe, creating a smooth zoom-in effect.

Step 5: Zoom Out

To zoom back out, move forward on the timeline, add another keyframe, and reset the Scale to 1.0.
Now you have a clean Zoom In → Zoom Out motion.

Tips for a Smooth Zoom Effect

  • Keep zoom movements slow for natural-looking motion

  • Use Ease In / Ease Out for smoother transitions

  • Avoid zooming too close; it may reduce video quality

  • Experiment with keyframe spacing to match your video style

  • Subtle zooms (1.2x–1.4x) often look more professional
